Introduction: This is the simplest and cheapest method to control any home appliance like fan, tube light etc. with the help of conventional remote of TV , AC, DVD player etc. For which we are using 38 KHz TSOP 1738 IR sensor which senses signal from all remote.
AIM: To control home appliance using conventional IR remote.

What you need?
  1. 7805 voltage control IC
  2. CD4017 decade counter
  3. TSOP 1738 IR sensor
  4. BC 547 NPN transistor
  5. BC 557 PNP transistor
  6. 4.7 k resistor (2)
  7. 100k resistor
  8. 100ohm resistor
  9. 1k resistor
  10. 10 microfarad capacitor
  11. LED
  12. RELAY(6 volt OR 12 volt)
  13. DIODE for protection purpose

          Circuit diagram

Discretion:

7805: All IC or electronics components are having 5v as working voltage. So we are using 7805 voltage control IC which converts 12v (or 6v) into 5v.

TSOP 1738: It is IR sensor which senses 38KHz signal from any conventional remote. It is having three pins 1st one is GND 2nd Vcc and 3rd is data pin which gives signal when you press any button from your remote.

 DATA SHEET

BC 557 : It is PNP transistor which amplifies the signal coming from TSOP sensor and gives to CD 4017 decade counter.

         DATA SHEET

CD 4017 : It is decade counter which senses the signal coming out form the PNP transistor. When you press the button of remote CD4017 IC holds the signal high even though you release the button and gives you out put signal.
      DATA SHEET

RC PARALLEL CIRCUIT: RC parallel circuit use to generate clock signal.

BC 547 : It is used to amplify the signal coming out from CD 4017 . Because o/p signal of CD 4017 is around 5v and we are using 6v or 12v relay so we have to amplify the signal.

RELAY : For switching purpose.

    ADVANTAGES :

           1. 10 m range
    1. You can use any conventional remote
    2. Low power consumption
    3. Low cost

    DISADVANTAGE :

IR ray can not pass through obstacles .

NOTE : MUST USE 38 KHz TSOP SENSOR .

  3. Can't be used in the same room as your TV set. As soon as you change channel, adjust the volume or turn it on/off, this circuit will trigger. On my version, I added a second 4017 as a counter and a 555 configured in a missing pulse detector. I configured it so that I have to press a key on the remote 6 times and each key press must not be separated by more than 1.5 sec, otherwise the counter resets itself to zero. Once the 6 pulses are detected, within the expected delay, the 4017 controlling the relay is triggered and reset the first counter as well, thus making the overall circuit ready for the next action.

Doing it like that, allows me to reset my cable box with any remote, from the comfort of my seat. No furniture to move, no wire to unplug and reconnect. The easy, simple and efficient way !
